Metaphysics and Epistemology Group (Tuesday - Week 7, HT23)

An orthodox position in Bayesian epistemology holds that all changes in attitude are explained by changes in the information state of the agent (cf: Bradley 2009: 223). But this informational chauvinism has rarely been directly justified or properly defended. I discuss some of the upshots of this view for thinking about, among other things, the norms governing attitude change. I then raise some challenges for the view that come from work in linguistics and cognitive science.
