DPhil Seminar (Wednesday - Week 8, TT26)

Abstract: Which moral norms if any govern imagination? Some say none; others say evaluative (but not deontic) ones, meaning that our imaginings can be morally bad but never wrong and hence blameworthy. I push back against this widespread scepticism by arguing that we can wrongfully violate others' privacy with our mere imaginings. This privacy-based argument for wrongful imagination draws on the burgeoning literature concerning the epistemic value of imagination.
